Efficient operation of the coke oven battery is essential for high quality coke production, battery maintenance and environmental protection. Optimal parameters of the coke oven battery operation needs to be adequate for actual production levels. The conducted regulations activities aims to select the optimal operational parameters and need to be chosen based on the knowledge about how the changes influences on the coke oven battery operation.

The Institute for Chemical Processing of Coal department of The Cokemaking Technologies for years conducts optimization of the coke oven batteries in Poland and aboard.

The optimization process can be divided for 3 stages:

STAGE 1 – Assessment of the technical and technological condition of the coke oven battery.

The main elements of the assessment are:

  • assessment of the ceramic brickwork and technical condition of the heating flues,
  • measurement of the cross wall temperatures, control heating flues and head heating flues temperatures,
  • draft measurements in the air-waste gas valves,
  • waste gas analysis,
  • measurements and assessment of the coke oven battery binding,
  • assessment of the coke oven battery equipment.

Also the technological parameters are evaluated such as:

  • oven pushing schedule,
  • uniformity of the control heating flues temperatures,
  • coke pushing force.

STAGE 2 – Verification and analysis of the procured data, selection of the optimization, maintenance and repairs activities.

STAGE 3 – Optimization of the coke oven battery operation parameters, conducting adjustment of the temperatures and hydraulic parameters and supervision of the maintenance and repair activities.

First two stages ends with presentation for the ordering with the outcomes of the assessment and proposed optimization strategy. Third stage is an implementation of the worked out optimization activities.
